After Your Session
The session doesn't end when you get off the table.
Reiki keeps moving through you for the next few days while your system integrates everything that shifted. This page is here to help you land softly. Nothing below is a rule — take what feels right and leave the rest.
Drink more water than you think you need
Energy work moves things, and your body needs water to carry them out. Aim for more than usual over the next 48 hours. Herbal tea counts. Coffee doesn't.
Rest without guilt
Some people leave a session buzzing and bright. Others feel like they could sleep for twelve hours. Both are correct. If you can, keep the rest of your day soft — no big decisions, no packed schedule, no one who drains you.
Let the emotions come
It's normal for feelings to surface in the days after a session — sometimes ones you thought you'd already dealt with. That's not a setback. That's the thing finally moving. Let it come up and pass through instead of holding it back down.
If your body feels a little strange, that's okay
In the first 24 to 72 hours you might notice:
- Tiredness, or a mild headache
- Vivid or unusually clear dreams
- Emotional waves, or a sudden urge to cry
- Mild cold-like symptoms
- Changes in appetite or digestion
- Deep, heavy sleep
This is your system recalibrating, not something going wrong. It usually settles within a day or two.
Ways to extend the glow
- A sea salt or Epsom salt bath before bed
- Time outside — bare feet on the grass if you can manage it
- Gentle movement: walking, stretching, slow yoga
- Skipping alcohol and heavy meals for the first 24 hours
- Protecting your sleep tonight, even if it means an early night
- Keeping your phone out of your hands for a while
Write it down
The insights from a session fade faster than you'd expect. A few minutes with a journal keeps them:
- What did I feel in my body, and where?
- What came up that I wasn't expecting?
- What did I let go of?
- What am I making space for now?
When to come back
Most people feel the effects of a session for one to two weeks.
- Maintenance and general wellbeing — once a month
- Moving through something big (grief, burnout, a transition, a big decision) — weekly or every other week for three or four sessions, then space them out
- Deep or long-held patterns — a consistent rhythm matters more than any single session
If you're not sure what you need, just ask me.
A gentle note
Reiki is a complementary practice. It supports your wellbeing beautifully, but it doesn't replace medical or mental health care, and it isn't a diagnosis or a treatment for any condition. Please keep working with your doctor, therapist, or specialist, and never stop or change a prescribed treatment because of a session. If something in your body feels genuinely wrong — severe or worsening pain, a fever that won't break, anything frightening — please see a medical professional.
